Fact-Checking Policy

Last updated:

This page explains how AV1 checks the facts in its reporting.

Before we publish

Reporters confirm key facts with primary sources whenever possible: public records, court filings, official data, direct interviews and original documents. Numbers are checked against their source. Quotes are checked against notes or recordings.

Editing

An editor reviews stories before publication and asks the reporter to support any claim that is not clearly sourced.

Claims by public figures

When we report a claim made by a public official or other public figure, we tell readers whether it is accurate, misleading or unsupported when the evidence allows.

After we publish

If new information changes a story, we update it. If a fact was wrong, we follow our corrections policy.
