AV1 is supported by advertising. This policy explains how ads appear on our site and how we keep them separate from our journalism.
Ads are labeled
Every ad on AV1 is labeled “Advertisement.” Ads are placed in set spaces on the page and are designed so they cannot be confused with news stories.
Who chooses the ads
Most ads are delivered automatically by Google and its advertising partners. We do not choose individual ads, and an ad on our site is not an endorsement.
Newsroom independence
Advertisers do not see stories before publication and have no influence over our coverage. Our editors make news decisions without regard to advertising.
Sponsored content
If we ever publish content paid for by an advertiser, it will be clearly marked as sponsored and kept apart from our news reporting.
