Ethics Policy
Last updated:
The people who work for AV1 follow these basic rules.
Conflicts of interest
Staff and contributors do not cover people or companies with which they have a personal, financial or family relationship. When a possible conflict comes up, they tell an editor.
Gifts and travel
We do not accept gifts, payments or free travel from people or organizations we cover. Review copies of books or products may be used for coverage and are not kept as personal gifts.
Political activity
Journalists who cover news do not work for political campaigns or donate to candidates or parties.
Treating people fairly
We are careful when reporting on private individuals, children, victims of crime and people in grief. We do not misrepresent who we are to get a story, except in rare cases approved by an editor where there is no other way to obtain important public information.
